ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION

100 Resilient Cities – Pioneered by The Rockefeller Foundation (100RC) is a new organization dedicated to helping cities to be better prepared for and quickly rebound from 21st century shocks and stresses. 100 Resilient Cities has selected and is working with 100 member cities from around the globe for whom it provides four kinds of value, to start: 1) Financial and other support for putting in place a new city resilience leader, a Chief Resilience Officer; 2) Support for development of a robust resilience strategy; 3) Management of a peer-to-peer network of member cities who can learn from and help each other; and 4) Connecting member cities to curated solutions of services provided by Platform Partners who can help them to implement their resilience strategies. 100RC seeks to increase awareness of the importance of resilience thinking, to catalyze a new community of urban resilience practitioners and spur the growth of a robust ecosystem of resilience-focused solutions and solution providers.

ABOUT THE POSITION

The Senior Manager, Global Delivery - Africa will be an integral member of the 100 Resilient Cities (100RC) Global Delivery Team, which is part of the City Solutions team. S/he will be responsible for overseeing the effective deployment of 100RC Platform Partner tools and 100RC solutions across 100RC member cities in Africa.  Through ongoing collaboration with the City Practice & Management Team (CPM), the Senior Manager must understand member cities’ resilience objectives and needs, identify both existing and yet-to-be-developed services and solutions to address these resilience needs, and liaise amongst 100RC, City, and Platform Partners to facilitate the implementation of the solutions.  Once the need and solution are identified and matched, s/he will also serve as the primary point of contact for Platform Partner – City engagements in Africa; working directly with the City and partner to develop the scope of work, monitoring the engagement to ensure that the City’s resilience objectives are achieved, and sharing the outcomes and organizational learning with our 100RC network. 

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Serve as a key member of the Global Delivery Team, who is responsible for inspiring and leading the coordination between 100RC, City, and Platform Partner representatives in facilitating the implementation of City Solutions tools and resources in 100RC member cities in Africa.
  • Work with the City and Practice Management Africa Team – the team which directly manages the relationship with 100RC member cities in the region – to understand and stay informed about the evolving priorities and needs of 100RC member cities in Africa.  This work includes the review of city resilience strategy documents at key stages, and providing relevant feedback to city and CPM team on 100RC the design and implementation of initiatives, as well as available 100RC resources to support these efforts. 
  • Collaborate with CPM Teams to actively report on, manage, diagnose and problem solve based upon feedback from 100RC City Solutions – Member City engagements, being adaptable to make adjustments where necessary, and sharing the lessons learned with other members of the Global Delivery Team and CST Research Team to facilitate the scaling of solutions across the 100RC portfolio.
  • Work with the CPM team and the Solutions Development & Innovation team to identify regionally relevant solutions, tools, funding sources, service providers and other potential partners which can address Africa city needs.
  • Participate and contribute to 100 Resilient Cities’ learning process and knowledge management, along with other members of the organization.
  • Partner with the senior leadership of City Solutions and the Africa Regional Director in developing the overall implementation strategy and approach for the African continent.

 

Desired Qualifications and Experience

  • Master’s degree or equivalent work experience
  • At least 8-10 years of relevant work experience in urban-related topics and/or specific industry expertise (i.e., finance, transportation, economic development) in Africa
  • Proven experience managing and  implementing projects with city, regional, and/or national governments in Africa
  • Familiarity with finance and public private partnership development is preferred
  • Strong project management skills and cross-sectoral (public, private, nonprofit) engagements. Familiarity with relevant corporations and organizations in Africa, including NGOs, research institutions and institutional actors active in the field of urban planning, urban infrastructure, or economic development ideally involved in mobilizing foundational, intergovernmental or other funding opportunities directed to the urban agenda
  • Ability to develop a vision, shape strategy, drive progress, encourage innovation, and take strong ownership under dynamic, constantly evolving conditions
  • Demonstrated team player and ability to effectively and constructively work across geographies with an international, multi-cultural, and cross-functional team
  • Exceptional interpersonal, and communication skills – the Senior Manager will serve as a strong brand representative for 100RC for partners, cities, CROs, etc.
  • Fluency in English required, and proficiency with other regional languages (e.g., Arabic, French, Amharic, Swahili) strongly preferred
  • Must be authorized to work in the UK.

 

Location

London-based, with 20-30% travel internationally
