ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION

100 Resilient Cities, Pioneered by The Rockefeller Foundation (100RC) is a new organization dedicated to helping cities be better prepared for and quickly rebound from 21st century shocks and stresses. Selected from an international competition, 100 Resilient Cities will work with 100 member cities for whom it plans to provide four kinds of value: 1) Financial and other support for cities to appoint and empower a Chief Resilience Officer (CRO); 2) Support for development of a robust resilience strategy; 3) Management of a peer-to-peer network of member cities who are pioneering a field of resilience practice in local government; and 4) Connections to solutions, service providers, and other partners who can help cities implement their resilience strategies. 100RC seeks to increase awareness of the importance of resilience thinking, to catalyze a new community of urban resilience professionals, and to spur the growth of a robust ecosystem of resilience-focused solutions and solution providers.

ABOUT THE POSITION

100 Resilient Cities is looking for a Delivery Manager in the New York office. Delivery Managers play a key role in the City Solutions Team (CST). Successful candidates work collaboratively with a portfolio of cities to provide project management support; technical and organizational assistance; quality control and coordination support in delivering platform solutions, services and tools in 100RC cities. They work with Global Delivery Associate Directors (ADs) and coordinate with the Solution Development & Innovation team (SDI), the City and Practice Management team (CPM), Platform Partners, and the CROs to facilitate efficient and effective development and implementation of the city’s resilience strategy.

Internally, Delivery Managers work in close collaboration and report to Associate Directors (AD) on the Global Delivery team (GDT), as well as coordinate skillfully with other parts of the 100RC organization to provide quality assurance on solution implementation in our member cities. DMs are able to skillfully support solution delivery in cities through effective monitoring of city & partner resources, timelines, and deliverables in collaboration with the CPM and SDI team. DMs also provide diligent systems documentation, leveraging tools such as Salesforce and other software to improve our global coordination and efficacy. This is also critical to our agenda to develop a common global practice of resilience, as the DM facilitates capturing, sharing, and distributing knowledge and lessons across 100RC in partnership with our Knowledge and Impact team and the CST Research team.

Externally, DMs assist the Global Delivery Associate Directors to skillfully manage and lead, implementation of resilience initiatives in 100RC cities. DMs support ADs by coordinating and managing the delivery of active platform partner engagements, reviewing city documents, providing solution recommendations as needed, documenting engagements in implementation, and coordinating the sharing of impact/outcome stories with our Knowledge and Impact team and the CST Research team.

DMs demonstrate flexibility, adaptability, an interest in supporting a collaborative team, and exceptional project management skills. Duties include, but are not limited to:

External Project Management

  • Independently support the CST engagements within a portfolio of North American member cities to ensure positive, clear and productive relationships with city contacts
  • Navigate a high degree of complexity in scheduling, organizing and managing meetings, follow up and tracking action items.
  • Coordinate and facilitate information exchange with confidence and accuracy and on behalf of the Associate Director, Global Delivery
  • Plan, manage, and oversee the quality of CST engagements, as well as diagnose, problem solve and elevate as appropriate, any issues that may arise

Internal Project Management

In collaboration with regional CPM team, oversee and ensure of progress of platform engagements in member cities; brief and elevate on progress, performance, and quality

  • Proactively manage timelines, data, and deliverables; actively problem solve and resolve challenges arising as cities develop and implement resilience strategies
  • Ensure proper documentation and data management in systems to track city performance (Salesforce, Excel)
  • Coordinate the production of impact stories from platform partner engagements with the CST Research and Knowledge & Impact teams
  • Prepare materials for internal governance approval, review, and communications to the 100RC executive team

Information Sharing and Research

  • Coordinate across 100RC to improve communications and streamline systems for efficiency in support of team operations
  • Synthesize and communicate learnings from engagements and urban insights with CST Research and Knowledge & Impact teams
  • Understand and communicate around emerging city resilience needs to facilitate new partner and solution development
  • Work with the CPM team and the Solutions Development & Innovation team to identify regionally relevant solutions, tools, funding sources, service providers and other potential partners which can address Asia Pacific city needs
  • Support and brief the Associate Director about relevant insights, opportunities and changes occurring within other 100RC teams when representing their portfolio during internal and external meetings
  • Serve as a thought partner to the Associate Director – North America in developing the overall implementation strategy and approach for the region

Basic Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in urban planning or a related field (development, public health, city management, etc.)
  • 3 to 5 years of urban experience
  • Legal work authorization in the United States

Preferred Qualifications

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; fluency in English required
  • Exceptional project management skills and can skillfully use software to produce outputs including Excel, Powerpoint, Salesforce, etc
  • Solid operational skills, including ability to work and deliver projects to deadlines independently and proactively
  • Excellent communications and writing skills and confidence to engage with officials in cities
  • Demonstrated interest and field of study related to urban resilience, such as development, public health, social equity, urban planning, city management, etc
  • Effectively collaborates with and across teams, seeks and provides constructive feedback
  • Authentic connection to and interest in urban resilience and planning, and passion for 100RC's work.
  • Experience engaging with actors and organizations across sectors (public, private, nonprofit); direct consulting and project management experience is a plus
  • Strong professional representation of 100RC, interpersonal relationship abilities, intercultural knowledge and appreciation, and strategic partnership building skills
