100 Resilient Cities, Pioneered by The Rockefeller Foundation (100RC) is a new organization dedicated to helping cities be better prepared for and quickly rebound from 21st century shocks and stresses. Selected from an international competition, 100 Resilient Cities works with 100 member cities for whom it plans to provide four kinds of value: 1) Financial and other support for cities to appoint and empower a Chief Resilience Officer (CRO); 2) Support for development of a robust resilience strategy; 3) Management of a peer-to-peer network of member cities who are pioneering a field of resilience practice in local government; and 4) Connections to solutions, service providers, and other partners who can help cities implement their resilience strategies. 100RC seeks to increase awareness of the importance of resilience thinking, to catalyze a new community of urban resilience professionals, and to spur the growth of a robust ecosystem of resilience-focused solutions and solution providers


The Director of Development Partnerships (“Director”) is a new role at 100 Resilient Cities. The successful candidate will spearhead thoughtful and mission-oriented development and fundraising efforts at 100RC as we embark on a new era in our remarkable trajectory. He/she will diversify 100RC’s funding support over the long term while developing meaningful partnerships with the philanthropic and donor community. He/she will play a key role in 100RC’s leadership team, and actively manage day-to-day efforts to cultivate high-profile partners and generate financial support for key projects. The Director will be responsible for engaging various donor and philanthropic communities, such as large independent foundations, corporate and individual donors, as well as intermediaries and associations, and successfully generate funding to help cities around the world become safer, stronger, and thriving. The Director will play a crucial role aligning 100RC global offices and functions to translate our programmatic goals into a compelling external strategy to attract donors.  

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Develop and execute a strategy for cultivating, collaborating, and generating funding support from the philanthropic and charitable communities. Define and communicate priorities to the organization.
  • Generate charitable revenue to support 100RC’s mission, programs, and operations. Work with a diverse community of global donors and philanthropies.
  • Facilitate efforts for joint partnerships, alliances and multi-stakeholder events to amplify support. Collaborate with partners and cities to pool resources and investment for resilience projects.
  • Create and deploy a relationship management system to ensure thoughtful engagement of these partners including how we share information, align resources, exchange insights, and co-invest in opportunities.
  • Collaborate closely with internal teams at 100RC to maximize the value of partnerships and ensure that the mission of the organization and opportunities for partnerships are thoughtfully represented and delivered on.
  • Use analytical tools, communications, and knowledge products to grow donor partnerships. Identify new areas of opportunity and demonstrate value to stakeholders.
  • Determine how to best utilize 100RC senior leadership and network influencers to drive support.
  • Prepare and brief leaders to participate in activities that drive support.
  • Design and carefully oversee donor diligence, reporting, and evaluation efforts. Ensure compliance with grantmaker or sponsor agreements.


  • Authentic connection to urban resilience in a global context and passion for 100RC's work, preferably understanding and/or experience in urban resilience-related fields such as public policy, urban development, disaster preparedness, population growth, climate change, poverty and vulnerability, environmental issues, etc.
  • Experience engaging with senior-level actors and organizations across sectors. Strong political acumen and experience in influencing philanthropic and non-profit leaders, senior officials, private sector executives, and individual investors.
  • Significant related professional experience in fundraising, donor management, partnerships, global experience, and strategic planning, and at least 15 years of overall professional experience
  • Proven experience managing multi-lateral, inter-cultural donor programs and navigating complex sets of interests. Strong ethical standards.
  • Strong ability to drive progress, have vision, promote innovation, and display ownership under ambiguous and dynamic conditions.
  • Proven process and project execution skills. Proficiency with donor cultivation and management
  • Exceptional presentation, cultivation, negotiation skills, and persuasion skills; expertise in building long-term relationships and value.
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills. English proficiency required.
  • Prior management experience
  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Must be authorized to work in either the U.S. or U.K., with the ability to travel internationally
