100 Resilient Cities – Pioneered by The Rockefeller Foundation (100RC) is an organization dedicated to helping cities to be better prepared for and quickly rebound from 21st century shocks and stresses. Resilient Cities works with 100 member cities from around the globe for whom it plans to provide four kinds of value: 1) Financial and other support for putting in place a new city resilience leader, a Chief Resilience Officer; 2) Support for development of a robust resilience strategy; 3) Management of a peer-to-peer network of member cities who can learn from and help each other; and 4) Connecting member cities to solutions, service providers, and other partners who can help them to implement their resilience strategies. 100RC seeks to increase awareness of the importance of resilience thinking, to catalyze a new community of urban resilience practitioners and spur the growth of a robust ecosystem of resilience-focused solutions and solution providers.


The Foundations Partnerships Specialist is an exciting new role charged with driving 100RC’s first ever institutional partnership portfolio. This critical role will work closely with the VP Strategic Partnerships to identify and secure new partnerships with institutional foundations, government, and civil society, prioritizing multi-year investment opportunities. Responsibilities will include the development of strategies for mobilizing resources, devising grant applications and executing partner-specific engagement plans. Under the guidance of VP, Strategic Partnerships, the postholder will identify and prioritize prospective partners, develop funder and engagement strategies to support HQ and regional priorities and coordinate information flow around stakeholder interactions with 100RC staff.  They will provide market-specific financial analyses on opportunities and provide inputs on financial projections and portfolio performance.

In this role, you will connect resources and capabilities against organizational priorities, and contribute to cross-sectoral initiatives to foster greater collaboration, funding commitment, and solution-focused investment from business, government, philanthropy and civil society.

Through your work, you will provide effective subject expertise in identifying, executing and managing strategies for foundation partnerships that contribute to team and organizational goals. Working with key staff and the VP of Strategic Partnerships, you will develop and execute innovative partnership models that support 100RC’s mission.

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Business Development

  • Contribute to the strategic partnership strategy by cultivating, collaborating, and generating funding support from the philanthropic and charitable communities.
  • Generate and oversee grant applications contributing to realization of global income targets and driving overall income growth.  
  • Develop and manage investments/grants from foundations, and provide oversight on funding proposals and reports.
  • Work with 100RC colleagues to identify the highest impact partnership ideas for priority prospects. Remain informed of key organizational priorities in order to position the Strategic Partnerships team to proactively engage in funding conversations around the most relevant of these priorities.
  • Develop and implement business development plans for priority partners, and progress a pipeline of new prospects with potential to advance 100RC’s work.
  • Provide, support, expertise and collaboration to regional teams on identifying and securing funds through the new business process.
  • Identify all possible sources of new and continued funding, monitor and evaluate partnership opportunities to achieve resource mobilization goals.

Partnership Management

  • Oversee the implementation, management and monitoring of a foundation portfolio, leading the cultivation, solicitation and stewardship to ensure thoughtful engagement of these partners. 
  • Collaborate with program and technical staff on progress of deliverables and opportunity to scale initiatives.
  • Negotiate partnership terms and contracts, including drafting, editing and producing compelling customized proposals, reports and briefs.
  • Liaise with Communication, Legal, Finance, Network, Knowledge & Impact teams to ensure global communication plans, contracting, governance, partner screening and reporting is in line with organizational values and compliancy.    

Business Analysis

  • Report on progress of partnerships and leveraging opportunities, providing business analyses on income, including projections and actuals.
  • Set and track key performance indicators, and provide guidance on market-specific strategic planning and relationship management.
  • Prepare analyses, track portfolio trends, and recommend directions to advance and inform partnerships.

Desired Qualifications and Experience:

  • Master’s degree or equivalent work experience.
  • Minimum of 8 years of progressively senior work experience in private foundations and/or other public or private grant-making bodies or organizations.
  • Extensive experience in relationship development, and securing and managing $1M+ investments from institutional partners.
  • Previous grant writing or strong communication experience.
  • Deep technical knowledge of foundations, NGOs.
  • Database experience required, Salesforce or other CRM experience preferred.
  • Experience in account and/or portfolio management is preferred.
  • Demonstrated team player and ability to effectively and constructively work within a global team.
  • Exceptional written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated experience in negotiating contracts and interfacing with senior leadership in an organization.
  • Strong ability to drive progress, develop a vision, shape strategy, promote innovation, and take strong ownership in a dynamic environment
  • Experience engaging with actors and organizations across sectors (public, private, non-profit)
  • Comfort working with colleagues across multiple offices, and globally
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S. or U.K.
